Who Is Our Tour Guide?

We've produced a series of self-guided audio tours of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, on CDs. With the CD in your car, you have a tour guide riding along with you, without taking up another seat! You'll be able to tour the Outer Banks at your own pace, stopping when you want to, and where you want to. Each tour can be done in a couple of hours, or you can take all day if you like! It's your choice.

The first edition covers the Outer Banks from the Currituck Beach Lighthouse in Corolla, to Aycock Brown Welcome Center in Kitty Hawk. What is different about the plumbing in the Whalehead Club? What was the connection between NASA and the Whalehead Club years ago? Where can you see the effects of an earthquake? Were there German spies on the Outer Banks before World War 2? Take the first tour in our series, and find out for yourself. Points of interest covered in the first tour include the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, Whalehead Club, the Currituck Shooting Club, the Wild Horse Sanctuary, the old Navy bombing range, the Kill Devil Hills Lifesaving Station, and more.

Part 2 of the series covers the area from the Aycock Brown Welcome Center in Kitty Hawk to Oregon Inlet. Why did the Wright Brothers choose to come to the Outer Banks to test their gliders? If they flew the plane in Kitty Hawk, why is the monument in Kill Devil Hills? Just exactly who was Aycock Brown, and why is a Welcome Center named for him? Take the second tour in the series, and you'll have those answers. Points of interest covered in the second tour include the Kitty Hawk Lifesaving Station, the Wright Brothers Memorial, shipwrecks you can see on dry land, and the Bodie Island Lighthouse, among others.

The latest addition to our product line is tour #3. It covers the southern end of the Outer Banks from Oregon Inlet to the southern tip of Hatteras Island. How many villages on Hatteras Island have had their names changed? Why? What was a "checkerboard" crew? What were the "Chicamacomico Races"? Why are there British sailors buried on Hatteras Island, as well as on Ocracoke? What are some examples of the damage caused by Hurricane Isabel? If you take the 3rd tour, you'll know. Points covered on this tour include the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, the British Cemetery, Buxton Woods Preserve, the Hatteras Weather Bureau, and more.

These tours offer something for anyone interested in the Outer Banks, whether they've been here once, a hundred times, or never. The tours are a great way to familiarize yourself with the Outer Banks, even if you listen to the tours before you get here. They also make great gifts!

Now that the first 3 CDs in the series of tours for the Outer Banks is complete, we plan to create tours for Roanoke Island, and then Ocracoke Island. Once those are finished, we'll offer tours for other cities, as well as a boxed set of all of the tours for the Outer Banks. Check back again soon to see what the latest news is for Our Tour Guide!
